# Is Grok Bot free? How the free trial works

Grok Bot is not free, but a free Cursor account can claim a trial: a usage credit with a 7-day window. One large task can use it all. Cancelling costs nothing.

Grok Bot isn't free: no free plan includes it, on Cursor or on Grok. A free Cursor account can claim a free trial, which gives you a limited amount of usage to spend within 7 days and never turns into a paid plan.

**In short**

- **No free plan includes Grok Bot.** The cheapest plan that does is [Cursor Pro, at $20 a month](https://learngrokbot.com/pricing).
- **The free trial is a usage credit** with a 7-day window.
- The credit follows the work your Bots do, so one long task can use all of it.
- When the trial ends, nothing is charged and nothing is deleted. **Cancel Trial** ends it early, for good.
- A free trial started inside the iPhone app is Apple's, and that one does become a paid subscription.

## What the free trial is

The trial is the first of three choices on **Get Started with Grok Bot**, the screen the desktop app opens on when your Cursor account has no plan. Its column gives the terms.

![The Start a Trial column of the Get Started with Grok Bot screen. It reads Free, credit card required, then three ticked lines: Access to all features, Limited usage, and Does not charge your card unless you subscribe. At the foot is an Activate Trial button](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/free-trial-start-a-trial.png)

1. The trial is free, and it asks for a card. The card isn't charged unless you subscribe to a plan yourself.
2. **Limited usage** is a credit: one fixed amount of usage. Its size isn't published.
3. **Activate Trial** starts it.

- **A credit.** The usage you get is a single amount. It isn't refilled each week the way a paid plan's usage is.
- **A 7-day window.** Whatever is left of the credit after 7 days goes with the trial.
- **Every feature.** Only the amount of usage is limited.

The same trial can be started in a browser, at cursor.com/bot/onboarding. [Set up Grok Bot](https://learngrokbot.com/setup) covers installing the app and signing in.

## What uses the trial up?

Once the trial is running, the credit goes down with the work your Bots do: the steps a Bot takes, and the text it reads and writes along the way. The number of messages you send doesn't come into it, as one request shows.

**Illustration: A Bot's chat**

> You: Compare the pricing pages of these twelve tools and put them in one table.
> (Opened 12 websites)
> (Read 12 pricing pages)
> (Wrote pricing-table.csv)
> Assistant: Done. The table is attached, cheapest plan first.

1. One message from you. The credit doesn't count messages.
2. The Bot's steps, and everything it read on the way. This is what the credit counts.

*One request, many steps. A bigger job has more of them.*

- **One big task can use the whole credit** in a single run. Used credit isn't restored or topped up.
- **Routines draw on it too**, every time one runs.
- **The percent counts up.** The meter in **Settings** > **Usage & Billing** shows how much of the credit is spent, so 100% means it's gone. Look there before you start a long job.

[Usage running out](https://learngrokbot.com/usage-running-out#spends) explains why one reply costs more than another.

## What happens when the trial ends?

The trial ends when the credit is used up or the 7 days pass. Either way your account goes back to the free plan, and **Usage & Billing** reads like this.

![The Usage and Billing page of Settings on a free account. The Weekly usage limit card reads No included usage available on your plan right now. Under Manage Plan it reads Current plan: Free, Your trial has ended. Upgrade to continue using Grok Bot, with an Upgrade to Pro button and a Get Access with Grok button](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/free-trial-ended.png)

1. The free plan has no usage of its own, so the meter is empty.
2. “Your trial has ended. Upgrade to continue using Grok Bot.”
3. The two ways back in: a Cursor plan, or a linked SuperGrok or X Premium+ subscription. [Pricing](https://learngrokbot.com/pricing#route) shows which one is yours.

- **Nothing is charged.** The trial never becomes a paid plan.
- **Nothing is deleted.** Your Bots, chats and routines are saved, and so are the files on your Bots' computer. They carry on from where they stopped once the account has a plan.
- **Your Bots stop replying.** The app can stay silent, or show a connection error ([Can't reach your computer](https://learngrokbot.com/cant-reach-computer)), when the real cause is the empty credit. Don't reset the computer to fix that. Check **Usage & Billing** first.
- **Credit gone with days to spare?** Until the 7 days are up, you can still open your Bots' computer and take files off it yourself. After that, the app can't connect to the computer until the account has access again.

## Cancel the trial

The trial ends without your help, so you never have to cancel it to avoid a charge. To end it early, open **Settings** > **Usage & Billing** and choose **Cancel Trial**.

![The Usage card of Settings, Usage and Billing, on a trial account. A Trial usage meter reads 0 percent, with Ends in 7 days at its right end. Under it are a Cancel Trial button and a blue Upgrade button](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/free-trial-cancel-trial.jpg)

***Trial usage** counts up as the credit is spent, and **Ends in 7 days** counts the window down. The blue button beside **Cancel Trial** names a plan to upgrade to.*

Cancelling does four things:

- It ends the trial right away.
- It removes whatever credit is left.
- It closes the offer. That account can't claim the trial again.
- It costs nothing.

**Cancel Trial** shows only on an account with no paid plan. If the button is missing on a free account, or cancelling doesn't take, write to Cursor support at hi@cursor.com.

## Which trial do you have?

Cursor's trial is one of three things that get called a Grok Bot free trial, and one of the other two ends in a bill. Tap where yours started.

**Interactive: Where did you start your trial?**

Open it: https://learngrokbot.com/widgets/free-trial-which-trial.html

What it does: Pick where your trial started (a computer or the web with a free Cursor account, the iPhone or iPad app, your company's admin, or the Android app) and see who runs it, what you get, what happens when it ends and where to cancel. Only Apple's intro offer turns into a paid subscription.

Its content as text:

### Where did you start your trial?

Tap it to see who runs that trial, how it ends and where to cancel.

Here are all four. Find the place you started yours.

Never bills you

#### The Grok Bot trial

- **Who runs it:** Cursor. You claim it with a free Cursor account, in the desktop app or on the web.
- **What you get:** A usage credit, spent by the work your Bots do, inside a 7-day window.
- **When it ends:** Nothing is charged. This trial never becomes a paid plan. Your Bots stop replying until the account has a plan.
- **To cancel:** You don't need to. To end it early, open **Settings** > **Usage & Billing** and choose **Cancel Trial**. The credit that's left is removed, and the account can't claim the trial again.

Turns into a paid plan

#### Apple's intro offer

- **Who runs it:** Apple. It starts when you pick a plan inside the iPhone or iPad app and confirm it with the App Store.
- **What you get:** A free period at the start of a monthly subscription that Apple bills.
- **When it ends:** It turns into a paid Apple subscription, unless you cancel before the last day.
- **To cancel:** On your iPhone, go to **Apple ID → Subscriptions** and cancel before the trial ends. Cursor can't cancel or refund it for you. Refunds go through Apple.

Your admin's call

#### An Enterprise trial

- **Who runs it:** Your company's Cursor admin, who starts it for the whole team from the Cursor dashboard.
- **What you get:** Grok Bot on your work account, with usage managed by your admin.
- **When it ends:** It's counted in days. Your admin sees how many are left on the dashboard's Overview. What follows is agreed between your company and Cursor.
- **To cancel:** There's nothing for you to cancel. **Cancel Trial** shows only on free accounts. Questions about the trial go to your admin.

No trial here

#### The Android app has no trial of its own

- **Who runs it:** Nobody. Google Play offers no free period for Grok Bot.
- **What you get:** A plan picked inside the Android app is a paid Google Play subscription, with no trial in front of it.
- **When it ends:** It renews every month until you cancel it.
- **To cancel:** In the Google Play app, go to **Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions**. To try Grok Bot without paying, claim the Grok Bot trial on a computer or on the web.

## Check: your first trial task

Back to the Grok Bot trial, and the first choice you make in it.

**Quick check: You've just started the trial and want to see what a Bot can do. Which first task tells you the most for the least credit?**

- Research forty competitors and build a full report with screenshots
- Attach one document and ask for a five-bullet summary that lists every date and decision
- Set up a routine that checks your inbox every hour

Answer: Attach one document and ask for a five-bullet summary that lists every date and decision A short, tightly scoped task. You see how a Bot works, and what it cost, before you risk a bigger one.

Afterwards, open **Settings** > **Usage & Billing** and see how far the percent moved. That's your yardstick for the next task.

Ready to try it? Start with the app.

**Next:** [Get the app and sign in](https://learngrokbot.com/setup)

Download Grok Bot, sign in with a free Cursor account and choose **Activate Trial**.

### Can I get a second trial, or more trial credit?

No. Used credit isn't restored or topped up, and after **Cancel Trial** the account can't claim the trial again.

### Does the weekly reset refill the trial?

No. Weekly usage belongs to paid plans and linked subscriptions. The trial is one credit, and [usage limits](https://learngrokbot.com/usage-limits) covers how the weekly kind works.

### I have SuperGrok or X Premium+. Do I need the trial?

No. Sign in with a Cursor account and link your subscription, and Grok Bot is included. SuperGrok Lite is the exception: it doesn't include Grok Bot. [Pricing](https://learngrokbot.com/pricing#link) has the steps.

### The trial won't accept my card. What now?

The card check doesn't work in every country. If yours is refused, a paid route is the dependable one: Cursor Pro, or SuperGrok linked to a Cursor account.

### How do I cancel a paid plan or get a refund?

The Grok Bot trial has nothing to refund, because it charges nothing. Cancelling a plan, and who refunds what, is in [Pricing](https://learngrokbot.com/pricing#questions).
