# How to set up Grok Bot: download, sign in, first run

Install the Grok Bot app, sign in with a Cursor account, link SuperGrok or X Premium+ if that's how you pay, and wait while your cloud computer is set up.

*From Learn Grok Bot, an independent guide (not affiliated with SpaceXAI or Cursor). Web version: https://learngrokbot.com/setup Last verified: 2026-10-06.*

*Step 2 of 9 on the path "Learn Grok Bot, step by step". Before it: [What is Grok Bot?](https://learngrokbot.com/what-is-grok-bot.md). After it: [Create your first Bot](https://learngrokbot.com/first-bot.md).*

Grok Bot signs in with a Cursor account, whichever company you pay. Download the app, sign in with the Cursor account you plan to keep, link SuperGrok or X Premium+ if that's your subscription, and the app sets up a cloud computer and your first Bot.

**In short**

- You always sign in with a Cursor account. Grok Bot has no login of its own.
- On Cursor Pro, Pro+, Ultra or Teams, signing in is all it takes.
- With SuperGrok or X Premium+, you sign in with a Cursor account, then link your Grok or X account to it. A free Cursor account is enough.
- A link can't be undone or moved to another Cursor account. Choose the Cursor account before you link.
- First run sets up a cloud computer, which can take several minutes. Keep the app open.

Have these ready before you start.

**What you need**

- [ ] A plan that includes Grok Bot, or a free Cursor account to start a trial. [Pricing](https://learngrokbot.com/pricing) lists every plan that counts.
- [ ] A Mac, a Windows PC or a Linux computer. A link is made on a computer, so start there even if you'll mostly use your phone.
- [ ] The email address of your Cursor account, if you have one.
- [ ] A Cursor account that isn't on Privacy Mode (Legacy), an older setting that blocks Grok Bot. [Here's how to change it](https://learngrokbot.com/sign-in-and-linking#legacy).

## Pick the account you'll sign in with

Every way into Grok Bot ends at one Cursor account. That account holds your Bots, chats and weekly usage, so pick it before you install anything.

The drawing shows the two ways a subscription reaches that account.

Diagram: Two subscriptions, a Cursor plan and SuperGrok or X Premium+, both lead to one Cursor account. The Cursor plan is already on your Cursor account. SuperGrok or X Premium+ reaches the same Cursor account through a link you make once, for good. The Cursor account is what signs in to Grok Bot.
- A Cursor plan → Your Cursor account: already on it
- SuperGrok or X Premium+ → Your Cursor account: linked for good
- Your Cursor account → Grok Bot: sign in

*Your Bots, chats and usage live on the Cursor account in the middle.*

Find your row, and you know what to sign in with.

| You pay for | Sign in with | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Cursor Pro, Pro+, Ultra or a Cursor Teams seat | The Cursor account that has the plan | Nothing more. Grok Bot is included. |
| SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+ | A Cursor account you'll keep. A free one is enough. | Link your Grok or X account to it, once. |
| Nothing yet | A free Cursor account | Start [the trial](https://learngrokbot.com/free-trial), or [pick a plan](https://learngrokbot.com/pricing). |

If you pay for both a Cursor plan and SuperGrok, sign in with the Cursor account that has the plan. A link adds no usage on top of it, as [Pricing](https://learngrokbot.com/pricing#stacking) explains.

## Install the app and sign in

With the account chosen, put the app on your computer. The sign-in itself happens in your browser, and the app picks it up from there.

**Walkthrough: Install Grok Bot and sign in**

### Step 1: Download the installer

Open [x.ai/bot](https://x.ai/bot) and click the download button, which names your system. Every installer is also listed on [cursor.com/download/bot](https://cursor.com/download/bot), including Linux packages and the Mac version for Intel chips.

![The top of the x.ai/bot page: the heading Meet Grok Bot, one line of description, and two buttons, Download for macOS and Contact sales](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/setup-download.jpg)

Image: Charlie Chang on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1IwR88mhaA)

### Step 2: Install the app and open it

Open the file you downloaded and install it the way your system expects.

![A Mac window titled Grok Bot Installer with two icons, Grok Bot on the left and the Applications folder on the right. The Grok Bot icon is being dragged onto Applications](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/setup-install.jpg)

Image: Kaceli TechTraining on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6TRjEjkOaY)

- **Mac:** drag **Grok Bot** onto **Applications**, open it from there, and click **Open** when macOS asks whether you're sure.
- **Windows:** run **Grok Bot Setup**, click **Next >**, then **Install**, then **Finish**.
- **Linux:** install the `.deb` or `.rpm` with your package manager, or make the AppImage executable and run it.

### Step 3: Click Sign in

The app opens on one screen with one button. Click **Sign in →**.

![The Grok Bot welcome screen: the Grok Bot name and mark, the line Your team of always-on Bots that you can give real work to, and one button, Sign in](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/setup-welcome.png)

Image: Cursor Help Center (https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/onboarding)

Your browser opens, and the app reads **Continue in your browser** while it waits. If no browser window appeared, click **Reopen link**.

### Step 4: Sign in with your Cursor account

In the browser, click **Sign in with Cursor**, then sign in the way you normally do: Google, GitHub, Apple or your email. No Cursor account yet? Click **Create an account**.

![A browser page headed Start using Grok Bot with three buttons: Sign in with Grok, Sign in with Cursor and Create an account](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/setup-browser-sign-in.png)

- SuperGrok and X Premium+ subscribers sign in to a Cursor account here too. The subscription is linked afterwards, in [the next section](#link).
- Use the same sign-in every time, on every device. A different email opens a different Cursor account.
- At a company with single sign-on, go through your company's sign-in page.

### Step 5: Click Open Grok Bot

One or two short pages can come first. One has a **Share Data** switch, and what you choose there also applies to your Cursor account. Another asks whether the Grok Bot app may sign in with this account: click **Sign in**.

![The last browser page of sign-in. It reads All set! Feel free to return to Grok Bot. and has one button, Open Grok Bot](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/setup-open-grok-bot.jpg)

Image: Kaceli TechTraining on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6TRjEjkOaY)

The last page reads “All set! Feel free to return to Grok Bot.” Click **Open Grok Bot**, and click it again if the browser asks for permission.

> **You should see**
>
> The app comes to the front, signed in.
>
> - On a Cursor plan, it starts setting up your computer. Go to [first run](#first-run).
> - With no plan on the account, it opens on **Get Started with Grok Bot**. That's the next section.

## Link SuperGrok or X Premium+

On a Cursor plan, skip this section. With SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+, one button ties your subscription to the Cursor account you just signed in with.

That link can't be undone or moved to another Cursor account, by you or by support. So the second step has a line to read before you click.

**Walkthrough: Link your subscription**

### Step 1: Click Link Grok Account

**Get Started with Grok Bot** has three columns. Yours is the third, **Get Access with Grok**. Click **Link Grok Account**.

![The Get Started with Grok Bot screen with three columns: Start a Trial with an Activate Trial button, Get Pro at $20 per month with a Get Pro button, and Get Access with Grok, marked Included, with a Link Grok Account button](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/setup-get-started.png)

Image: Michel Szabo on X (https://x.com/MichelSzabo1984/status/2098322286491123723)

With X Premium+, use **Link X Account**. If the screen has only **Link Grok Account**, that button is the one: its column lists X Premium+.

### Step 2: Check the account, then click Link Accounts

Your browser opens a page titled “Link Your SuperGrok Subscription to Access Grok Bot”. Read the line under the big button before you click anything.

![The foot of the link page: a wide Link Accounts button, a line that reads Signed in as followed by a blurred email address, and a Switch accounts button](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/setup-link-accounts.png)

1. **Signed in as** names the Cursor account that will hold the link. If it isn't the one you chose, click **Switch accounts**.
2. When the account is right, click **Link Accounts**.

Image: Daniel Morris on X (https://x.com/danielmorris/status/2105291793117917524)

A Grok sign-in screen follows. Use the Grok or X account that has your subscription. The link page asks you to authorize with that account there, and not to sign in with an email address.

> **You should see**
>
> Back in the app, **Get Started with Grok Bot** gives way to computer setup. The link is made.
>
> If the plan screen is still there, or the link page shows a line in red, [Sign-in and linking](https://learngrokbot.com/sign-in-and-linking) has the fix for each message.

A link grants weekly usage and changes nothing else: you stay on your Cursor plan, or on none. [Pricing](https://learngrokbot.com/pricing#link) covers what each subscription grants.

## Get through first run

Once the account has access, the app does the rest. Your part is to wait, then click **Next** a few times.

**Walkthrough: First run**

### Step 1: Keep the app open while your computer is set up

Grok Bot creates the cloud computer your Bots will work on. It does this once for your account, and it can take several minutes.

![The middle of the Grok Bot window during first run: the Grok Bot mark and one line, Setting up Grok Bot's computer](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/setup-computer.jpg)

*Leave the app open until this line goes away. It can also read **Starting your computer**.*

Image: Nate Herk on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hKJ9X6rGFo)

### Step 2: Click through the intro

A short intro follows: a few screens about Bots and their computer, ending on **What do you use every day?** Click **Next** on each one.

![The intro screen What do you use every day? A search box, a grid of twelve apps from Workspace and Slack to HubSpot and Canva, three of them ticked, and two buttons, Next and Back](https://learngrokbot.com/assets/shots/setup-intro.jpg)

Image: Nate Herk on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hKJ9X6rGFo)

Ticking an app here doesn't connect it or sign you in. Your picks only shape the Bots the app suggests.

### Step 3: Meet your first Bot

Setup creates your first Bot for you. Its name is **Grok Bot**, and the app opens a chat with it.

**Illustration: Grok Bot**

> Sidebar: Grok Bot (open)
> Sidebar: Connect apps
> (Your first chat, ready for a message)

Earlier versions showed a **Create your first Bot** form at this point. The app now makes the Bot itself.

> **You should see**
>
> A Bot named **Grok Bot** in the sidebar, its chat open, and a message box that reads **Message Grok Bot**. You're set up.

## Three setup mistakes

Setup goes wrong in three places, and each is cheaper to avoid than to fix.

> **Common mistake: Linking from the wrong Cursor account**
>
> A second Cursor account is easy to make without meaning to: a work email in one place, a Google sign-in in another. A link made there stays there.
>
> **The fix:** Read the **Signed in as** line before you click **Link Accounts**. Already linked on the wrong account? Sign in to Grok Bot with that account, and see [your options](https://learngrokbot.com/sign-in-and-linking#link).

> **Common mistake: Quitting while the computer is being set up**
>
> First run can sit on one line for several minutes with nothing to click, and it looks stuck.
>
> **The fix:** Leave the app open until the intro appears. If setup fails or stops changing, quit Grok Bot fully and open it again, then follow [Can't reach your computer](https://learngrokbot.com/cant-reach-computer).

> **Common mistake: Downloading the wrong Mac version**
>
> The main download button gives you the version for Apple silicon. On a Mac with an Intel chip, that app won't install.
>
> **The fix:** Open the Apple menu and choose **About This Mac**. A **Chip** line means Apple silicon. A **Processor** line means Intel: download **Mac (Intel)** from [cursor.com/download/bot](https://cursor.com/download/bot).

## Check you've got it

You're signed in, and you know which account everything sits on. One check on the choice you can't take back.

**Quick check: You link SuperGrok while signed in to your work Cursor account. A month later you want Grok Bot on your personal Cursor account. What can you do with the link?**

- Unlink it in Settings, then link again from the personal account
- Ask Cursor support to move it
- Nothing. The link stays on the work account

Answer: Nothing. The link stays on the work account A link pairs one Cursor account with one Grok or X account for good. To use that usage, you sign in to Grok Bot with the work account.

The Bots you made stay with the work account too. That's why the account comes first.

Next, create a Bot of your own and hand it a job.

**Next:** [Create your first Bot](https://learngrokbot.com/first-bot)

Create a Bot from New chat, name it for its job, tell it that job in one message, then hand it a first task that needs no plugin or login. Real screens.

### Can I set up Grok Bot on my phone?

Yes, with one exception. Install Grok Bot from the App Store or Google Play and sign in with the same Cursor account you use on your computer: your plan carries over, and there's nothing to buy again. The exception is a SuperGrok or X Premium+ link, which you make on a computer first. [Platforms](https://learngrokbot.com/platforms) lists what each phone needs.
