Grok Bot has a desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux, and a phone app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The docs describe no version that runs in a web browser.
#Does Grok Bot run on your device?
Find your device in the first column. The second column is what it needs, and the third is where the app comes from.
| Your device | What it needs | Where to get the app |
|---|---|---|
| Mac | An Apple silicon or an Intel chip. Each has its own download. | cursor.com/download/bot |
| Windows PC | An x64 or an Arm64 chip. Each has its own download. | cursor.com/download/bot |
| Linux computer | An x64 or an Arm64 chip. Comes as a .deb, an .rpm or an AppImage. |
cursor.com/download/bot |
| iPhone | iOS 18 or later | App Store |
| iPad | iPadOS 18 or later | App Store, the same app as the iPhone |
| Android phone | Android 9 or later | Google Play |
| Web browser | No version is described | Nowhere. Install one of the apps. |
- The oldest macOS, Windows and Linux versions the desktop app runs on aren't published.
- Every app signs in to the same Cursor account and shows the same Bots and chats. Your plan comes along, so there's nothing to buy again on a second device.
- In the desktop app, click your picture at the bottom left and choose Get Grok Bot for mobile to open the store page for your phone.
#When did each platform arrive?
Pages written in Grok Bot's first weeks say Linux, Android and iPad aren't supported. That was true at launch on 11 August 2026, and it stopped being true within four weeks.
- The Linux app was in the official docs by 4 September.
- iPad support came in version 1.6.0 of the iPhone app, and was announced on 9 September.
#What works on a phone, and what needs a desktop?
The desktop app does everything. The phone app opens the same Bots and covers the daily work, which is the first five rows here. The six rows after them need a computer.
| What you want to do | In the phone app |
|---|---|
| Message a Bot, dictate, or talk in a voice chat | Yes |
| Approve or deny what a Bot wants to do | Yes |
| Watch your Bots' computer, and take over for a password or a CAPTCHA | Yes |
| Create a Bot or a group chat | Yes |
| Pause or resume a routine | Yes |
| Change a routine's schedule or instruction | Desktop only |
| Teach a task by showing it | Desktop only |
| Update, recover or reset your Bots' computer | Desktop only |
| Create, publish or edit a Team Bot, or connect one to Slack | Desktop only |
| Link a SuperGrok or X Premium+ subscription | On a computer first |
| Let Bots work on your own computer, or send their browsing through it | Desktop only |
- Link SuperGrok or X Premium+ on a computer first. The phone then picks the link up when you sign in with the same Cursor account.
- Sharing into a chat from another app differs by phone. An iPhone can share a photo, a file, a link or text. Android shares text only.
- Closing the app, on any device, doesn't stop a Bot. The work runs on your Bots' cloud computer.
#Pick the right download
On a computer, the big download button on x.ai/bot gives a Mac the Apple silicon version. The other versions sit one click away, under More downloads.
- The Mac version for Intel chips.
- Linux, in three package formats, for x64 and Arm64.
cursor.com/download/bot lists every installer on one page. To know which one is yours, check your chip:
- Mac: open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. A Chip line means Apple silicon, and a Processor line means Intel.
- Windows: open Settings > System > About and read System type. It says x64 or Arm64.
- Linux: run
uname -min a terminal.x86_64means x64, andaarch64means Arm64.
#A Mac says Grok Bot isn't supported
That Mac has an Intel chip, and the file is the Apple silicon version. Download Mac (Intel) from cursor.com/download/bot and install that one. Set up Grok Bot takes it from there.
#Linux: three packages, two ways to update
Linux gets the same app as Mac and Windows, in three package formats. The format you install decides how the app updates.
| Package | For | How it updates |
|---|---|---|
.deb |
Debian and Ubuntu | Through your package manager: sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade grok-bot |
.rpm |
Fedora and RHEL | Through your package manager: sudo dnf upgrade --refresh grok-bot |
| AppImage | Every other distribution | By itself. The app offers each new version, and Restart to Update installs it. |
- No package for your distribution? Use the AppImage. Make the file executable, then run it.
- The
.deband the.rpmadd Cursor's own repository, so an ordinary system upgrade brings new versions of Grok Bot with it. The app tells you when one is waiting. - Hardware security keys don't work on Linux yet.
- Bots working on your own computer isn't promised on Linux. If it won't start, check that a system keyring (gnome-keyring or KWallet) is installed and unlocked, then quit Grok Bot fully and open it again.
#Why the app says Update required
An installed app doesn't stay usable forever. When Cursor stops supporting your version, Update required covers the whole window until you update. The help center puts the age at 14 days, and Cursor sets the limits itself and doesn't publish them. One switch keeps that from happening.
- Automatic Updates is on unless you turn it off. The app restarts to update while you're away.
- The version you're running.
- Check for Updates looks for a newer one right now.
If the screen has already appeared:
- Choose Update.
- When the download finishes, choose Restart to update.
- If the update fails, choose Try again, or choose Download the latest version and install it over the old one. Your Bots and chats belong to your account, so they're still there.
- On Linux, the screen can show a command in place of the button. Choose Copy command, run it in a terminal, then restart Grok Bot.
- On a phone, the button is Update Grok Bot, and it opens the App Store or Google Play.
#Check: phone or desktop?
Try the phone table on eight real jobs.
You're away from your desk with only your phone. Sort each job.
- Type a two-factor code into your Bots' computerYou can take over the computer from the phone.
- Move a routine from 8:00 to 9:00Changing a schedule needs the desktop app.
- Start a new Bot for a job that just came upThe phone app creates Bots and group chats.
- Teach a task by recording itTeach a task is on the desktop only.
- Approve an email a Bot has draftedApprovals reach the phone app.
- Reset your Bots' computer when it's stuckUpdate, recover and reset are desktop controls.
- Link your SuperGrok subscriptionA link is made on a computer.
- Pause a routine before a holidayPausing and resuming work on the phone.
The phone is enough
Wait for the desktop app
Show the answer
The phone is enough: Approve an email a Bot has drafted (Approvals reach the phone app.); Type a two-factor code into your Bots' computer (You can take over the computer from the phone.); Pause a routine before a holiday (Pausing and resuming work on the phone.); Start a new Bot for a job that just came up (The phone app creates Bots and group chats.)
Wait for the desktop app: Move a routine from 8:00 to 9:00 (Changing a schedule needs the desktop app.); Teach a task by recording it (Teach a task is on the desktop only.); Reset your Bots' computer when it's stuck (Update, recover and reset are desktop controls.); Link your SuperGrok subscription (A link is made on a computer.)
You know your device is covered. Next, put the app on it.
Is there a web version of Grok Bot?
The official docs describe none. Bots are used through the desktop app or the phone app. The websites you meet along the way do other jobs: x.ai/bot for the download, cursor.com for sign-in and billing. One thing does work without the app: a Team Bot that's been published to Slack answers there. Teams covers that.
Which languages does the app come in?
The desktop app has 31: English, Afrikaans, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian Bokmål, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese. Choose one in Settings > General, under Appearance, where Follow System uses your computer's language.
The phone app has 11: English, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish. Voice chat has a Language setting of its own.
I can't sign in on my phone. What should I check?
Sign in with the same Cursor account you use on your computer. A different email address is a different account. If your access comes from SuperGrok or X Premium+, make the link on a computer before you sign in on the phone. For a sign-in that loops or stops on an error, Sign-in and linking has the steps.
Can I use Grok Bot on two devices at once?
Yes. Your Bots and chats stay in step across every device you're signed in on, and all of them draw on one pool of usage.
